YUMCHA - A little bit of everything...

Same Sex Attracted Friendly Environments (SSAFE) & YUMCHA (A little bit of everything)

The SSAFE project provides information, training, support and resources to students and staff at local schools to challenge homophobia, as well as supporting schools to be positive environments for LGBTIQ students.

YUMCHA (social group) meet on Mondays 4 pm @ Brophy CYC providing a safe, friendly environment for young LGBTIQ people (up to 25 yrs

What does YUMCHA do?

  • Safe & Welcome Place Project: This project supplies decals to be displayed in   businesses and organisations who pledge to provide a safe and welcome place for all.
  • #DIY Rainbow Crossings: This project was in support of the Rainbow Crossing in CBD Sydney which was created for Mardi Gras.  The Council ripped up the crossing which caused much public disappointment. This soon developed into a world wide media campaign in which #DIY Rainbow Crossings were created anywhere and everywhere in support.  Warrnambool youth also created their own rainbows.
  • Presentations to young people in school settings on all things LGBTIQ
  • Support from Safe Schools Coalition to assist schools to support LGBTIQ young people. Attendance @ Safe Schools Symposium
  • Attendance by YUMCHA members to Pride March Melbourne
  • Attendance by YUMCHA members to Midsumma Festival Melbourne
  • Attendance by YUMCHA members to Marriage Equality Rally, Melbourne
  • Attendance by YUMCHA members to Transgender Day Camp, Geelong
  • Presentation of DRAG shows in Warrnambool
